One in five children in this country struggles with hunger, including more than 2.4 million kids in California. That’s over 27% of children in San Diego who don’t have ready or reliable access to the food they need to lead healthy, active, and productive lives yet. The good news is that this is a solvable problem. The No Kid Hungry campaign is ending childhood hunger in this nation by ensuring all children get the healthy food they need every day by connecting them with nutrition programs like school breakfast and summer meals and by teaching families how to cook healthy, affordable meals at home.

Since the summer of 2011, No Kid Hungry’s efforts to expand access to summer meals and school breakfasts have helped connect kids to more than 34 million additional meals. The No Kid Hungry campaign is replicating that success around the country by working collaboratively with its partners to feed millions of American children.

Celebrity chef, TV host, New York Times best-selling author, and mom of four Melissa d’Arabian has been a longtime advocate of childhood nutrition and hunger relief efforts through her ongoing support of Share Our Strength and its No Kid Hungry campaign. d’Arabian rose to stardom after winning “The Next Food Network Star” and is well -known for her popular “Ten Dollar Dinners” TV show and cookbook. Her newest projects include serving as a judge on Food Network competition series “Guy’s Grocery Games,” developing and hosting acclaimed FoodNetwork.com web series “The Picky Eaters Project,” and preparing for the highly anticipated debut of her second cookbook, Supermarket Healthy, on December 30. “Childhood hunger is a cause close to my heart, so I love doing anything I can to support Share Our Strength and the No Kid Hungry mission,” said d’Arabian. “I’m proud to serve as the honorary chair and host for my hometown Taste of the Nation event this year. Not only do attendees get to enjoy a fun night with delicious food and drink, but they also know their money is directly helping Share Our Strength’s efforts to eradicate childhood hunger Ā– including local organizations and those needing help in our community.”

One hundred percent of ticket proceeds from Taste of the Nation San Diego benefit the No Kid Hungry campaign as well as local beneficiaries like the San Diego Hunger Coalition. The event would not be possible without generous support from national presenting sponsor Sysco, national sponsors American Express and Food Network and local sponsors Lincoln Motor Company, Hilton San Diego Bayfront and Pasta Chips.
