Nado-ween 2014: Coronado’s Halloween Events and Adventures


Halloween on Coronado starts Friday with a haunted house at the Coronado Community Center, followed by a Halloween carnival and costume contest held at the Coronado Library. Next week’s activities include Orange Avenue’s “Downtown Goes Ghostly” on Halloween afternoon, followed by trick or treating all over the ‘island’. Get all the details below and have a fun and safe Nado-Ween!

Friday October 24

Haunted House and Halloween Happening at the Coronado Community Center (3:30 to 9 p.m.)

Known to scare more ghosts and goblins west of San Diego Bay, the Coronado Recreation Department’s Annual Haunted House will be up and spooking on Friday, October 24.

Located in the Coronado Community Center, 1845 Strand Way, the Haunted House will be filled with spiders, zombies, mad doctors and more. It is meant to scare all who enter. The less scary version is available from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for preschoolers and their parents and the regular haunted house from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for adults and children of all ages. The Extreme Haunted House opens its doors from 7 to 9 p.m. for teens and adults to enter. Beware.

Along with the Haunted House at the Community Center, the Recreation Department is hosting its annual Halloween Happening from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 24, which includes carnival games, mons-terrific crafts, jump houses, a tot lot for children 2 and younger, food and beverages. Costumes are highly suggested. Tickets are available for purchase at the Halloween event.

Halloween Carnival at the Coronado Public Library (6 – 8 p.m.)

Join the Coronado Public Library for its Annual Halloween Party! Dress in your best costume for the costume contest, and enjoy the carnival with many fun games and prizes to win, plus a puppet show at the end of the night.

Wednesday October 29

CoSA Horror Night 2014 (7 p.m.)

Come to the Coronado School of the Arts’ Horror Night 2014! The scare begins at 7:00pm on Oct. 29 and 30th in the Black Box Theatre, 650 D Ave.

Not recommended for those under 12, the original films and works of Digital Media’s Film, Animation, and Graphic Design students will have you gasping like a 1980’s “slasher film.”

Please notice the price change from last year; $10 for adults, $5 for seniors, military, and $3 for CUSD students.

Thursday October 30

URT Spook (Night Surf) at Shipwreck’s Break (6 – 8:30 p.m.)

Come out for a one-of-a kind URT event.

The 4th Annual URT SPOOK is a night time free surf where we come with a big light tower and generator and light up the ocean to give you a unique night time surfing experience. The event doesn’t cost a dime, but it will cost you your soul. muhuhuhahahaha!

All surfers are strongly encouraged to come and surf in their Halloween costume and try and scare the ocean.

Friday October 31

Downtown Goes Ghostly (3:30 – 5 p.m.)

It is time again for witches and ghosts to wander throughout the central downtown. Coronado MainStreet sponsors the popular Downtown Goes Ghostly each Halloween. Many of the merchants in the central downtown area will be participating — first timers, if you’re unsure of where to begin, look for the crowd in the vicinity of Rotary Plaza.

Trick or Treating in Coronado Neighborhoods

From dusk until the candy runs out! For the older kids, visit Margarita Avenue (photo below) for even scarier decorations & special treats. Read the story about the Margarita Monsters here.

Lastly, let’s remember to welcome all ‘trick or treaters’ to the island whether they are local or not.
