CHS Senior Standout: Maddie Clakley

Like many others here in Coronado, Maddie Clakely was transplanted to Coronado from somewhere else. She came here from Okinawa, Japan in 2009, because her father is in the Marine Corps and was transferred here. Six years later Maddie is in her last few months of high school at Coronado High School.

Maddie has enjoyed every minute of the last four years. She has had the opportunity to make lifelong friends and meet great role models that are part of the CHS staff. Her favorite teacher is the art teacher, Mrs. Hill. Maddie says, “I have had her for three years and every time I walk into her class I can relax and take a break from the stresses of school.”

Maddie has also been active in sports. In November, Maddie concluded her final season as a part of the CHS volleyball program, where she made a significant contribution to the varsity team as a back row player. Her most memorable moment from high school was her volleyball senior night, when she and eight other seniors were recognized. That same night marked the Varsity Volleyball team became League champions for the first time in ten years.

In the upcoming months, Maddie is most looking forward to all the fun events that her last semester offers: the senior trip, powder puff, prom, and all other graduation related events.

Next fall, Maddie will be attending Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, as a member of the class of 2019. Maddie says she chose TCU for, “the academics and the small school feeling but the big school spirit.” While at TCU she plans on studying athletic training. Maddie told us that one quirky thing about her is that she likes to sing very loud in the shower. Her dorm mates might enjoy the entertainment next year.

When asked where Maddie sees herself in 10 years she says, “with a family and hopefully working as an athletic trainer for the U.S. Olympic team.”
