“American Idol” to hold audtions at San Diego’s Waterfront Park

Wannabe singing sensations are expected to show up in force Monday, June 22 at the County’s Waterfront Park to audition for the final season of “American Idol.”

Up to 2,500 people could descend on the park – all in the hopes of being “discovered.”

The open call auditions run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the park’s northwest section, but event planners say people could start lining up at 6 a.m. The entire park will be open while the auditions are taking place.

Park officials say the underground parking garage is limited to those with business at the County and parking spaces nearby are expected to fill up fast. They strongly recommend that people auditioning for the show take public transportation.

It could also be a long day for anyone waiting for their chance at stardom so they’re advised to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. While the event ends at 5 p.m., anyone standing in line at that time is still expected to get an audition.

Noise shouldn’t be an issue for the surrounding neighborhood because the auditions will be performed a cappella. The show’s celebrity judges won’t be a part of the local auditions.

For more information about the Waterfront Park, visit the website or call (619) 232-PARK (7275).
