The City of Coronado is pleased to celebrate the completion of the Silver Strand Fence Project and invites those interested in checking out the new fencing to a simple ceremony at 9 a.m. on Thursday, November 15.
The fence project, which revitalized state Route 75 in its southern stretches north and south of Silver Strand State Beach, was completed in two phases. The second phase was recently completed. The first phase was completed earlier this year.
“The new fencing is a tremendous upgrade for the Silver Strand State Highway, a special place in Coronado,” said City Manager Blair King. “The improvement allows for the needed security as well as maintaining the spectacular view of the coastline. We are thrilled that the old fence is gone.”
The community is invited to attend the celebration event at the Coronado Cays Boulevard exit off SR-75 just south of the State Beach entrance kiosk.
The old chain link fence was worn and dilapidated and was a community eyesore for years. The City pushed, with strong encouragement from nearby residents, for a nicer fence. The City managed the first phase, which included the area between Coronado Cays Boulevard and the northern end of the Silver Strand State Park. The second phase was managed by State Parks and included a new fence from the Coronado Cays exit off SR-75 south to the Navy’s Coastal Campus project.
New round wood fence posts and fencing panels were installed to match the height of the existing fence. The new fence on State Parks property is a long-needed visual improvement in the area.
