CHS Football: Coronado Dismantles Mountain Empire 65-12

Coronado’s Ashlin Bibbes runs the ball up the field.

Coronado fans packed the bleachers for a 7pm kickoff Friday night against the Mountain Empire Redhawks of Pine Valley. The pressure was high for the seniors to perform well in front of the parents and fellow Islanders on Senior Night. The Redhawks were first to score with a long ball play making it 6-0.

Senior Tyler Buckley electrified the stadium when he answered with a kick return touchdown. The extra point unit came in and lined up to kick. They surprised everyone when senior placeholder John Shoemaker flicked the ball to kicker Nico DiMatteo. Nico dove up the middle for a successful two-point conversion. This gave the Islanders momentum.

Brady Roulier was a steady leader at quarterback throwing two touchdown passes. One of Brady’s passes was to senior James Witthoft, scoring as time expired before the half. A special moment in the second half was an extra point from kicker, Nadia Quijano. Not only was this Nadia’s first kick, but this was also her first game.

Coronado dominated their opponent with a final score of 65-12. Click here to view game stats.  Coronado’s overall record is now 3-2 and they have a bye going into next week.

The Islanders next game is away at Serra High on Friday, October 4, at 6:30pm.
