CITY BALLET OF SAN DIEGO, under the direction of Steven and Elizabeth Wistrich, closes its 26th Anniversary Season during the Mother’s Day weekend with a full-company, large scale interpretation of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s final composition “Requiem,” performed with full orchestra and an 80-voice chorus.

Performances are Friday, May 10 at 8:00 pm, Saturday, May 11 at 8:00 pm, and Sunday, May 12 at 2:00 pm, at the historic Spreckels Theatre, 121 Broadway, downtown San Diego.

The program showcases contemporary ballet works by City Ballet of San Diego’s Resident Choreographers, Elizabeth Wistrich and Geoff Gonzalez, including the popular four PAIR to Claude Debussy’s romantic music featuring four beautiful duets and the world-premiere of Battu to a percussion score by Geoff Gonzalez, plus Elizabeth Wistrich’s dramatic Mozart’s Requiem. This production makes a perfect gift for mom during the Mother’s Day weekend.

“The Spreckels Theatre is the ideal venue for this performance,” stated John Nettles, City Ballet of San Diego Music Director. “The theater’s acoustics are ideal for live orchestra and chorus with the power of Mozart’s score enveloping the audience and drawing everyone into this remarkable ballet performance.”  Mozart’s Requiem is paired with two offerings by Geoff Gonzalez: four PAIR, featuring duets performed by City Ballet dance artists to the music of Claude Debussy and the world-premiere Battu danced to a single drum. “This production literally surrounds the audience with art – dancers, musicians and chorus – the making of a most memorable experience,” says Artistic Director Steven Wistrich.

The Saturday evening, May 11 performance is followed with an on-stage champagne reception. During the reception, patrons will meet City Ballet dance artists and gain a behind-the-scenes perspective of presenting contemporary ballet. A limited number of on-stage reception tickets are available when ordering performance tickets.

One-half hour prior to each performance Artistic Director Steven Wistrich offers a FREE short lecture giving audience members a more insightful experience of the ballet performances.
