Design Review Commission: On Wednesday, October 24, the Design Review Commission approved a design for the new underground parking structure in the Hotel del Coronado North parking lot. The commissioners’ review consisted of a series of two new elevators from the underground parking garage, arbors along a walkway, and various elements to welcome guests to the hotel on the north side of the property. The parking structure will include two levels of underground parking, as well as a surface parking lot that will accommodate up to 782 cars. The Commission also approved a removable Open House sign for the Coronado Cays adjacent to the security kiosk. A rendering of how the sign design will appear is shown here. The sign will only be displayed on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Finally, commissioners approved a duplex at 949 D Ave. with a roof deck.

Orange Avenue Pavement Repair Work to rehabilitate sections of Orange Avenue between Sixth and Adella Avenue and from Tenth Street to Adella will soon begin. The work, which will include dig-out repairs of pavement that has failed and been previously patched, will begin November 13. Construction will be done at night due to the volume of traffic on Orange during the normal work day. Work hours will be 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Read more.

Coastal Campus Lighting: After several Coronado Cays residents complained at the last Naval Complexes meeting about the lighting at the north Entry Control Point, or gate, at the Navy’s Coastal Campus being on 24/7, the Navy decided to turn off the temporary security lights when the gate is not open, which is the case during most of the hours of darkness. The Navy told the City that there were a few construction activities during the night over the past couple of weeks where temporary lighting was used. Read more.
