“This is a big victory for the small businesses in Coronado” said Claudia Ludlow, Chairperson of Discover Coronado, when announcing the return of free shuttle service this holiday season.
The Shop Local Shuttles are a grass-roots initiative developed by Discover Coronado to help small business owners during the holiday season.
“The program encourages business travelers staying at our resorts to shop local for holiday gifts they’ll only find in Coronado” added Ludlow.
During 2017, Discover Coronado welcomed 84,494 conventioneers who spent an average of $306 per day and $1,116 during their business trip. Most group meetings occur mid-week, a difficult time for restaurants and small business operators.
Discover Coronado is underwriting the entire service that will debut on “Black Friday,” November 23rd. Shuttles will be dashing through Coronado every 20 minutes at bus stops, transporting business travelers, hotel guests and locals through New Year’s Day. Service begins at 9am and continues to 9pm.
The Shop Local Shuttles are ideal for Coronado residents who have their own list of holiday gifts to buy. The service will save parking spaces in front of small businesses. They also provide safe transportation for adults enjoying festive cocktails at holiday celebrations.
The City of Coronado has no financial interest or obligation with the shuttle program, nor does it fund any of Discover Coronado’s efforts to attract meetings to the island.
