  • Former Redevelopment Agency Bond Refinance: The last major hurdle has been cleared to refinance the City’s former Community Development Agency bonds and loans. The bonds and loans required approval by the California Department of Finance, which the agency granted Tuesday, August 28. There are no further impediments to the refinancing of the bonds. The refinancing of the former redevelopment agency bonds should benefit the Coronado Unified School District by directing back to the School District its full share of tax increment revenues by about 2027. This is a Successor Agency bond issue and not a City bond issue. Pricing should occur September 18. The bonds should close a month later. Residents interested in purchasing the bonds, may contact Pat Toutant at Piper Jaffray at (612) 303-5537 any time after Wednesday, September 5.
  • Annual Tree Trimming to Begin: The City’s tree trimming contractor has started its annual tree trimming service for publicly owned trees in the area bounded by Alameda Boulevard, Alder Street, Tenth Street and Naval Air Station North Island. The area is called Sector 2 and is outlined in the map below. The City asks residents to please be aware of no-parking signs throughout that sector and plan ahead. There are approximately 1,000 trees to be trimmed in Sector 2. The work may take up to 90 days. The tree trimming contractor will have a crew of about five members with several large trucks moving throughout the area.

  • Planning Commission:  At its Tuesday, August 28, meeting, the Planning Commission voted to recommend that the City Council adopt an ordinance amendment to require a minimum 3-foot side-yard setback for all basements in Coronado. The City Council will consider the proposed ordinance amendment at a September 18, hearing.
