City Manager’s Weekly Update – February 23, 2018

  • City Council: voted to not allow any existing historic parks to allow off-leash dogs, accepted mid year budget adjustments, approved agreement with Caltrans, heard update from sewage lobbyist and progress report on Community Grants
  • A barrier is being constructed as a temporary measure to protect western snowy plovers during construction of the Coastal Campus gate
  • NASNI will be conducting extensive training next week; from 2/27-3/1 increased activity on water and restricted access at gates
  • County of San Diego has notified Coronado of the music festival across the bay at waterfront park to be held March 3 & 4 where 16,500 people are expected
  • It’s tax season — be aware of phone calls and voice mails from people impersonating the IRS

  • Next week, Naval Air Station North Island will be conducting extensive force protection training. From Tuesday, February 27, through Thursday, March 1, there will be increased activity on the water near the carrier basin and around the gates on First Street and Ocean Boulevard. All gates will be open during the morning and afternoon commute; however, the First Street and Ocean Boulevard gates will have restricted access, or be closed, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents may also hear blank gun fire and notice an increase in vehicle traffic at the Third Street Stockdale Gate.
  • Coastal Campus construction work continues on the gate at the intersection of Old Fort Emory Blvd (Hooper Blvd) and State Route 75.People transiting the area may notice construction of a barrier being built as a temporary environmental measure to protect nesting Western Snowy Plovers from disturbance during the construction activity. Commuters and cyclists should expect temporary lane and shoulder closures throughout the next two weeks during construction of the barrier.The lane closure will occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.The barrier will be removed upon completion of the intersection.
  • San Diego Waterfront Park Event:  The County of San Diego has notified the City of the twice-a-year music festival, CRSSD Fest,  at its Waterfront Park, on Harbor Drive in downtown San Diego. The music festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4; from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. on Sunday. Organizers expect 16,500 people. Questions can be directed to the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation at (619) 232-7275.   • Tax Season Scams:  It’s tax season and the Police Department would like to remind the community to beware of phone calls and voicemails from people impersonating the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
