On August 22, the Coronado San Diego Bridge Collaborative for Suicide Prevention gave all of the donated money that had been collected ($10,500) for Coronado San Diego Bridge suicide prevention feasibility study as follows: $7,500 to UMTR2ME (You Matter to Me) Suicide Prevention, and $3,000 to Yellow Ribbon San Diego Suicide Prevention. CalTrans would not accept the money for the study and these two outstanding organizations were recommended by the San Diego Suicide Prevention Council. Wayne Strickland, President of the collaborative said that they are “very happy to have all the funds donated to help prevent suicides. CalTrans needs to expedite bridge suicide feasibility study and build a fence or net NOW.”

In response to the donations, these responses were received:

Dear Coronado Bridge Suicide Prevention Coalition,

Thank you so much for your generous [contribution] to our organization. We appreciate your support of our efforts to save young lives by bringing a message of hope and help to youth and the adults that interact with them.

With gratitude,

We want to thank the San Diego Coronado Bridge Collaborative for Suicide Prevention for their very kind and generous financial contribution.

UMTR2ME is proud to support the efforts of this passionate group to have a safety barrier added to the iconic Coronado Bridge before the pretty lights go up.
