CHS Club Collecting Backpacks to Donate to Homeless Vets and their Families

Madison Steel is collecting backpacks to donate to vets and their families. She founded the CHS club Random Acts of Kindness.

Remember the CHS group called Random Acts of Kindness?  Last January, they donated hundreds of homemade cookies to Coronado civil service members.  Well, they have a new cause and it’s the perfect time of year to get involved.

Vincent Spatafore dropped off boxes of backpacks to help kick start the campaign.

Madison Steel, founder of Random Acts of Kindness, is leading the charge to collect new and gently used backpacks to donate to the Veterans Village of San Diego – a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of homeless military veterans and their families. Steel shared that “The mission of Random Acts of Kindness is to make our island, and community, a kinder place one act at a time. Our club includes 40 individuals, freshman to seniors who have been involved in several of our projects since our inception in September of 2016.”

The group is collecting backpacks until Friday September 1st.  Simply email Madison to arrange pickup at [email protected]. You can also learn more about the CHS group by visiting their Facebook group.

So far the group has collected almost 50 backpacks with more on the way. In addition, some donors have dropped off shampoo, conditioner, soap, hand sanitizer, wipes etc.Steel wanted to especially thank the Coronado community for stepping up to support this project.  “The generosity from the community has been amazing.  After posting her project to the Coronado Happenings Facebook Group, the community reached out in full force to support the project!”

Want to get involved?  Email [email protected] to donate or get more information.  The backpack drive ends September 1st.
