Don’t miss the Coronado Community Center’s free Summer Entertainment at noon on Wednesday, July 19th , when the USA Jump Stars will demonstrate what happens when you get some of the best jump ropers in the country together for an action packed show with music and audience participation that gets everyone jumping.
Don’t think this performance is just a bunch of children jumping rope. The skilled athleticism of the USA Jump Stars performers is so amazing that they have been featured in McDonalds, Hillshire Farms, Lance Crackers, Shoe Carnival and Sports Authority commercials. The rope jumpers have starred on the TV Shows “Glee” and “The Doctors” and have won many top national titles in both single rope and double dutch competitions.
USA Jump Stars, founded in 2000 by Coronado High School graduate Melinda Everett, promotes jump rope as a means for creating a healthy body and mind. The focus of their program is to fight childhood obesity and heart disease while developing personal values, team spirit and sportsmanship through competitions, live performances and fun. Their jump rope classes and camps are taught at schools and recreation centers throughout San Diego County. In fact, they are hosting Jump Rope Camps for children ages six to twelve at the Coronado Community Center the weeks of July 17-21 and August 7-11.
Come on Wednesday, July 19th for the jump rope show at noon, then head over to the Coronado Pool for recreation swim starting at 12:30pm (admission required). That is a full day of fun provided by the Coronado Recreation Department.
