- AED Life-saving Incident: Earlier this week, a beach lifeguard noticed a beachgoer slumped over in the sand. He immediately ran to his aid and established that the man was unresponsive. The lifeguard began providing lifesaving measures, including CPR, with the assistance of a bystander. Additional lifeguards were notified and responded, bringing with them first aid equipment and an automatic external defibrillator, or AED. The lifeguard used the AED to deliver the recommended shock prior to the Coronado Fire Department Paramedics arriving and assuming care. The patient was transported by ambulance to the hospital, and was alert and speaking to the paramedics. Coronado has placed AEDs in all public buildings, police patrol units, and in beach lifeguard vehicles. They have directly assisted in multiple medical emergencies and saved lives.
- The City of Coronado will observe the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 29, and reminds residents that some municipal facilities will remain open. Coronado Police and Fire will be staffed for the holiday. Public Services crews will be on call over the long weekend to respond to emergencies. Certain City of Coronado departments and services will be open with varying hours of operation. Public Services crews will not sweep streets on the holiday. EDCO will not perform regular residential trash collection on Memorial Day so there will be a one-day delay in service. The Household Hazardous Waste program will be closed Saturday, May 27. Here is the City’s holiday schedule:
- Memorial Day Ceremony at Star Park at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 29, organized by VFW Post 2422.
- Security guards will begin patrolling the North Beach fire ring area in the evenings between Memorial Day and Labor Day as in past years. This has proved successful in preventing violations at the fire rings and more quickly addressing those they were are not able to prevent.
- Please be advised that next week is the final week of manual traffic control at state Route 75 and Tarawa Road.
- Starting this weekend, the City will begin an increased level of service for 7-day-a-week sidewalk porter service throughout the City’s business Districts. Crews will be assigned to Orange Avenue, First Street, and other side streets along Orange to pick up trash, scrape up gum, clean up ice cream, and empty trash bins.
- The portable restroom trailer is in place at the beach end of Avenida del Sol and will remain until the end of summer.
