Jazz Vespers – May 14

Jazz vespers is a contemporary riff on an ancient prayer service held at sunset. Early evening is a great time to pause and give thanks for all the day has held – the good, the bad and the ugly – enhanced by the glorious sound of jazz music. A special ambiance exists between prayers said and scripture read within the walls of an historic stone church as the late afternoon sun filters through the stained glass windows. Add the gift of musicians playing a truly American form of musical expression born in the African American culture of New Orleans. The May 14 jazz vespers service includes soloist Michael Morgan’s rendition of Duke Ellington’s hauntingly beautiful “Come Sunday.” Come get a taste of ancient and new, followed by a “Taste of New Orleans” yummy reception in the lovely courtyard of Christ Church. This event is free of charge and open to the community.
