The City of Coronado, Coronado Unified School District and Circulate San Diego will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on October 5.
Approximately 3,500 students from Coronado Middle, Coronado High, Coronado Village Elementary, and Silver Strand Elementary Schools will be walking and rolling to school on Wednesday, October 5, as parents, teachers and community leaders provide encouragement.
The main event occurring at Coronado Middle School will begin at 7:30 a.m. with students walking to school. Walkers and bicyclists will arrive at the school from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. Local elected officials will be attending the event at Coronado Middle School.
Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.
The event is being organized by the City and Circulate San Diego, with collaboration from Coronado Middle, Coronado High, Coronado Village Elementary, and Silver Strand Elementary Schools. The purpose of Walk to School Day is to promote healthy communities and active transportation choices.
