The Coronado Chamber of Commerce’s Celebrate Coronado Event is tomorrow, Thursday July 14th and just a few tickets remain to this annual event. This community-wide celebration honoring our city and our local heroes is also a chance for local restaurants to showcase their best Island-inspired fare. The Hotel del Coronado, Il Fornaio, Loews Coronado Bay Resort, Leroy’s Kitchen + Lounge, Mike’s Island Dip and Peohe’s are this year’s participants, each sending their top chefs to prepare their top dish.
The Hotel del Coronado is sending Pastry Chef Daphne Higa, who will be preparing a Coconut Panna Cotta, as well as Chef Josh Mouzakes, who is making Little Neck Clams with Sea Beans and Black Caviar. Leroy’s Kitchen + Lounge is sending Head Chef Tim Kolanko and Peohe’s Executive Chef Jeff Rottinghaus will be making ahi tacos with wasabi and soy glaze. Il Fornaio’s Giorgio Lo Verde is making his popular Insalata di Mare Seafood Salad while Loews Coronado Bay Resort’s Executive Chef Christopher Aguirre is going with a Sweet Corn Panna Cotta with Dungeness Crab Salad. Founder and Executive Chef Mike Woodall is new to this year’s event and will be showcasing his popular Mike’s Island Dip.
“We could not be more excited for Thursday’s event,” said Sue Gillingham, Executive Director at the Coronado Chamber of Commerce. “We hope everyone is hungry and ready to bid on some amazing prizes!”
This year’s Islander theme pays homage to Mayor Casey Tanaka, who will also be honored at the event. Guests will sip the complimentary signature drink, a Mai Tai, all while enjoying the fabulous bay view at the Coronado Community Center’s Nautilus Room and enjoying the “Islander” themed menu. Guests will also have the chance to bid on a variety of locally sourced opportunity prizes, such as the evening’s main prize of a two-night weekend stay at the Hotel del Coronado that also includes spa treatments and brunch for two, valued at $1,500. A beach cruiser with an attached Polynesian coconut cup holder provided by Holland’s Bicycles, valued at $300, will also be up for grabs. A new addition this year is a silent auction with prizes provided by the participating restaurants; where four tickets to the Hotel Del’s Clambake, valued at $110 each, an overnight stay at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort including breakfast, valued at $350, as well as a $50 gift card to Peohe’s will be auctioned off. Many more prizes will be available, too. All proceeds from the opportunity prizes go directly to the Chamber’s annual Coronado High School Aspire Business Scholarship.
“We have just a few tickets left and would love to sell out,” Gillingham said. “This is such a great chance for the community to come together and celebrate our city, our local heroes, our amazing local restaurants and all things Coronado.”
All are invited to attend this celebratory evening, and tickets are now on sale for just $50. Tickets include the local restaurant showcase dinner, a signature drink and the night’s entertainment and can be purchased on the Chamber’s website.
The Chamber would like to give a special thanks to the Hotel del Coronado for their support as the event’s main Celebration Sponsor, as well as sponsors California America Water Company, CMG Mortgage-Kory Kavanewsky, Crestmont Property Management, Coronado Eagle & Journal, Glorietta Bay Inn and Village Theatres.
