Top 5 Coronado Highlights for Families

Coronado is not only paradise, it also happens to be a fabulous getaway destination for families. From the golden beaches to the charming locals to the safe neighborhoods to the parks perfect for a picnic, you can enjoy the luxuries of the beach lifestyle with the entire family in tow.

Family time is valuable no matter where you have it, but we think it’s a lot more memorable at the beach! From burying dad in the sand to dancing in the park, these are the types of memories you will talk about for years to come.

To help set your family up for the perfect vacation, here are our highlights for families:

1) The Beach

We have over two miles of golden shores beckoning you to join. This sandy shoreline can be your hub of activity, your much needed retreat, or the court for a friendly round of family volleyball. We like to think of it as your canvas to create the most memorable experiences for your family.

Although we don’t recommend falling asleep for too long! We’ve seen many a snoozing parent wake up to being completely buried in the sand with giggling kids skirting behind umbrellas. That being said, burying mom and dad in the sand might be the highlight of your kid’s trip. Family vacations are all about laughing and shared moments after all.

It’s not only the kiddos who can enjoy the beach. Coronado has a dog friendly beach as well. It’s often referred to as the best dog friendly beach in San Diego. In fact, we are a very dog friendly island.

2) Spreckels Park

While you could spend five days straight nestled into a good book at the beach, sometimes family members like to switch up activities. In the heart of Coronado, we have a beautiful park waiting to host you for an afternoon of fun. Taking over an entire city block, this beautiful park offers the shade of countless trees, a playground, and lots of room to run around.

Here are a few family friendly park activities:

  • Frisbee
  • Picnic
  • Grass Volleyball
  • Create an obstacle course
  • Three-legged race

3) Satisfying that Sweet Tooth

Coronado offers a plethora of healthy eating options. In fact, the most budget friendly and healthy option is cooking from one of our kitchen suites at Coronado Inn.

But sometimes the fun of going on vacation is to indulge that sweet tooth.

Coronado offers two scrumptious options to delight any dessert preference. The local longtime favorite is Moo Time Creamery. If you’re walking down Orange Ave, you can’t help but notice the playful cow statue stationed outside the front of the ice cream parlor.

Next, we have dozens of different flavors of cupcakes from the Coronado Cupcakery. Each bite will delight your taste buds! Should you want to celebrate with the family, check out their cake options as well.

4) Seasonal Activities

Concerts in the park, holiday parades, plays, and art in the park are all seasonal festivities that Coronado brings each year to the delight of locals and visitors alike. Weather you visit when the leaves change colors, when school lets out, or throughout the holidays, Coronado will have a variety of activities to entertain.

Check out the Coronado Visitor Center’s list of events to see what is happening over your visit.

5) Biking the Island

Taking a tour of the island on two wheels is an iconic pastime. Feel the breeze in your hair. Notice the sights and sounds of the town. It’s the perfect way to spend the afternoon.

Coronado has bike options for the entire family. If you have little ones who aren’t steady on their own or teens that can cruise on their own, we have you covered. Check out the full list of bike rentals on the island.

At Coronado Inn, we even put together a list of the best places to visit by bike.

Bonus: Family Photos

How often do you have everyone in the same place at the same time? If you’re like most families, this task is a little harder to accomplish than you’d like. Between volleyball practice, band performance, and committee meetings, time seems to slip away.

When you’re in Coronado, you’re on island time! Things run a little slower when you are sitting at the beach enjoying our year round rays. Take the opportunity while everyone is enjoying paradise to capture the moment.

Best Family Lodging Around

At Coronado Inn, we provide the best budget lodging options for families on the island! When you choose the Coronado Inn, you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for affordability. We offer robust amenities, including a free continental breakfast.
