Service Member’s Car Towed Away While Deployed

Letters to the Editor submitted to eCoronado.com are the opinions of the author and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the publisher, editors or writers of eCoronado.

Good evening eCoronado,

My son’s name is Edgar Batista, he is in the U.S. Navy and is active duty Military based in San Diego, California.  On September 4th his ship the USS Ronald Reagan set sail for 3 months going around South America to relocate to Virginia.  My son arrived back to the base on December 20th.

As instructed, he left his car parked on base. He just got back to San Diego after being underway and he is told that his car was towed from the Coronado Military base and that if he wanted it back he would have to pay $2,500. We cannot afford this.  It is very sad that our servicemen and women are rewarded in this manner by having their belongings taken while they volunteer to serve our country.

I email you to bring attention to this, to see if someone could help my son.  I am in Florida and he has no one there that can help him. I have called everyone and no one seems to care. The Servicemember Civil Relief Act was put in place so that things like these don’t happen, but no one seems to care, especially during the Christmas Season all everyone cares [about] is the money and not the sacrifice these kids do by joining the military and being away from their family to defend our country.

Please bring attention to this eCoronado. Thank you in advance for your attention.

Sincerely,
Leyda Ramos, Edgar Batista’s Mom
Florida
