Coronado Beach Polo Event Cancelled

The Coronado Cultural Arts Commission announces the cancelation of Coronado Beach Polo scheduled for October 18, 2015. Complex and challenging from the onset, recent developments dictate cancelation of this event.

The Commission wishes to thank the San Diego Polo Club for its willingness to bring an amazing polo match to Coronado and to International polo player Nacho Figueras for agreeing to participate. Also, the Commission thanks the Hotel Del Coronado for offering the use of its incredible beach venue.

Originally scheduled to “recreate a moment in Coronado’s history” when Coronado was the epicenter of polo in the western United States, many challenges were overcome by organizers including the untimely death of original polo partner Russ Sheldon a member of the United States Polo Association Board of Governors; however, bringing polo to a West Coast beach for the first time continued to prove problematic and in the end presented a mountain of impossibility. It is with regret that the Commission leaves to history Coronado’s storied connection with the “Sport of Kings.”

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the cancelation of this event. The Commission continues to offer a full schedule of events in support of the City’s 125th year celebration.
