The public is encouraged to attend a meeting of the Coronado Republican Women on Saturday, November 8, 2014 in the Sand Dollar Room of the Coronado Community Center, 1845 Strand Way, Coronado. The cost is $10 at the door. Light refreshments are available between 9:30AM-10:00AM. The meeting will start at 10AM and features special guest speaker Aaron Negherbon, founder and executive director of TroopsDirect whose mission is to make sure our troops are well supplied.
According to its website, TroopsDirect supports front line troops as a non-profit back line’ of supply for units based in Afghanistan, Africa, at sea and others in other hot spots’ by providing in bulk, detailed hygiene, nutrition, gear and K9 support. TroopsDirect is a registered 501c3 tax exempt organization with 87 cents of every dollar going to program expenses.
Examples of the support TroopsDirect has provided include:
- Over 50,000 units of hydrating drink powder when service members were drinking impure well water pumped out of the ground in 130 degree heat.
- Additional stretchers, stethoscopes, syringes and gauze was requested and filled less than 3 hours after medics in a combat zone were waiting over 4 weeks.
- Over 5 tons of nutritional supplements, energy bars and protein powder when several units had no protein in their diets and were eating less than one meal a day.
- Over 50 cases of chalk powder for marking the location of land mines rather than resorting to the use of bottle caps that the troops had been using.
- Over 10,000 packets of body wash & 2000 tubes of toothpaste after troops were going over a month without bathing or brushing their teeth.
- The parts for parts to fix a broken down generator which were acquired and shipped within 72 hours after having waited over 12 months.
- A full resupply of gloves and replacements socks for an infantry unit of 150 service members in the dead of winter.
