‘Wine & Lecture’ Event Friday — William Van Dusen, Master Craftsman

This Friday, June 13, at 5:30 p.m., the audience will learn much about millwork and finish carpentry in the early 20th century.

William Van Dusen is a master craftsman specializing in authentic architectural woodwork for pre-1940 homes and gardens, including many in Coronado. He will offer an informative narrative on millwork and finish carpentry in the early 20th century, and working with those traditions 100 years later.

Restoration work presents many challenges, and Van Dusen will share his knowledge about joinery techniques, finish carpentry skills and tools needed to complete these specialized projects. He will also discuss wood species used in older homes, and how old-growth wood compares to the second-growth wood available today. Information on how to find local and national millwork producers and other resources will also be presented, with ample time available for comments and questions.

CHA’s Wine & Lecture events are free to the public; wine is available at $5 per glass. No RSVP required, but seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The Lecture Hall is located at the Coronado Museum of History & Art, 1100 Orange Avenue. For more information, visit www.CoronadoHistory.org or call (619) 435-7242.
