CMS Interact Club Teams with CHS Grad to Provide Books to Ethiopian Students

The Coronado Middle School Interact Club is collecting children’s books (for ages 6-17) to ship to Ethiopia. Matt Oakley, a 2007 Coronado High School graduate, is in Ethiopia teaching English with the Peace Corps. One of his greatest desires is to inspire his students through reading.

Interact is collecting for the organization “Borderless Books”. The mission of this organization is to “use book collection, applied fundraising, and awareness campaigns to provide necessary resources (primarily books) to schools in need, promoting education in our generation and giving teachers the tools required to enrich our future. Educate global youth about issues relevant to their future outside of traditional education. Expand awareness of the issue and promote active leadership among youth by establishing branches at schools world wide.”

The Interact club has drop boxes for book donations located in the offices of Coronado Middle School at 550 F Avenue and Coronado High School at 650 D Avenue. There is also a drop box at the Coronado Public Library. The club is also accepting donations to help pay for shipping of the collected items.

Monetary donations can be mailed to:

Coronado Middle School, ATTN: Amy Steward, 550 F Avenue, Coronado, CA 92118

Checks should be made payable to Rotary Club of Coronado (Please write “Borderless Books” in the memo section of your check.)

Check out the local effort by liking the Borderless Books Coronado Face Book page.

CMS Interact club members are excited to help Matt and their new friends in Ethiopia.
