This past week was a successful one for Coronado Women’s Water Polo. Varsity was victorious with an 8-5 win over Cathedral Catholic on Thursday. Scoring, with a goal each were Katy Gauvin, Jaicey Tyler, and Cassidy Wiley. Mackenzie Wiley scored the remaining five goals. After the first half Coronado controlled the game allowing for playing time by all players.
The weekend was filled with games for the JV and Novice teams. The Novice competed, and took second, in a tournament hosted by La Jolla High School. Here in town, the JV team won their tournament beating JV teams from Poway, Murietta Valley and lastly, La Jolla in the finals. The weekend competition was a great way for some of the younger girls to get more experience and game time.
In the practices to follow we will be working hard pushing each other to play at a higher level so that when it comes to game time the games seem easier.
Monday, January 13th, CHS hosted a team from the Diocesan School in New Zealand. Coronado Varsity team won 8-4 with two goals each from Anna Makridis, and Katy Gauvin and one each from Maddie Hill, Cassidy Wiley, Jennifer Hanling, and McNeilly Fieweger. The JV played a close game losing 4-5. Following the game we hosted a dinner at the pool for our guests. Thank you to Clayton’s Mexican Takeout for providing the burritos.
Come out and watch the Islanders compete against La Jolla. Games begin at 3:00 this Thursday, January 16th.
