One of the few crime thrillers of the year, John Crowley’s Closed Circuit is playing this week at the Coronado Village Theater.
Set in London after an attack seemingly plotted by terrorists, two attorneys are assigned to represent the suspect. Martin (Eric Bana) is the public attorney, while Claudia (Rebecca Hall) is the private one. The two are banned from communicating, which is difficult given their romantic past. However, as they both begin to realize unexpected details about their case, they team up to unveil the secret behind one of the biggest crimes in British history.
Although an interesting story with an almost-strong beginning, sitting through the movie mostly feels like a drag. The character development is weak, and most of the plot feels like the first half of the Great Gatsby, long and uneventful. Although an interesting plot twist sets the ending, the film has a generally bland feel to it.
Moviegoer Cheyne Ostrander says the movie was “unnecessarily drawn out and I was struggling to keep my eyes open.”
