The Cochrane Collaboration, www.cochrane.org established in 1993, is an international network of more than 28,000 dedicated people from over 100 countries. They work together to help healthcare providers, policy-makers,
patients, their advocates and caregivers make well-informed decisions about healthcare, based on the best available research evidence by preparing, updating and promoting the accessibility of Cochrane Reviews published online
in The Cochrane Library. Cochrane Reviews are systematic reviews of primary research in human healthcare and health policy and are internationally recognized as the highest standard in evidence-based healthcare.
The Cochrane Collaboration’s contributors represent a mix of volunteers and paid staff who are affiliated through
entities: healthcare subject-related review groups and networks concerned with the methodology of systematic reviews and regional centers. Many are world leaders in their field of medicine, health policy, research methodology or
consumer advocacy and the entities are situated in some of the world’s best academic and medical institutions. San Diego’s Peg Ford is a consumer reviewer for peer review of systematic reviews for the Cochrane Gynecological Cancer Review Group based in the Royal United Hospital, Combe Park, Bath, U.K.
Ovarian Cancer Advocacy Alliance of San Diego (OCAA) is a member of Consumers United for Evidence-Based
Healthcare (CUE) whose activities are supported by the United States Cochrane Center (USCC) www.us.cochrane.org one of 13 centers worldwide that contribute to the Cochrane Collaboration. CUE work to strengthen the voice of consumers and provide leadership in healthcare research. CUE’s mission is to promote the health of populations and the quality of individual healthcare by empowering consumers, public health policy makers, and healthcare providers to make informed decisions based on the best current evidence through research, education, and advocacy.
