The four classes of CHS have been working all week on floats to showcase at the homecoming parade on November 5th. The theme for the floats this year was Disney. The freshmen, new to the art of competitive float building, designed a scene from “The Jungle Book”, complete with a waterfall, tree, and students dressed up as animal characters. The sophomores, returning from a demoralizing loss last year in which they were disqualified for allegedly using help from parents, are still bitter, and put out all the stops on their representation of “Up”. It was complete with chicken wire/tissue paper versions of Russell (the kid), Kevin (the bird) and Mr. Fredriksson (the elderly man). It also had a house with balloons coming from the top. The juniors obviously have gotten the hang of float building. They created an impressive version of “Aladdin”, featuring a masterfully crafted magic carpet (I believe) with a monkey riding on it, all chicken wire and tissue paper. Some may criticize them for their use of a cardboard genie, but I believe the tissue paper lining on the bottom of their display makes up for that. The seniors returned one last time this year, hardened from three previous competitions, with some of the most creative minds in the school contributing to their float. They created “Toy Story”. In my opinion, they had the most impressive backdrop seen on any of the floats. The Toy Story logo was tissue papered with such perfection as to make Walt Disney cry in his grave. The seniors also had an impressive display of costumes worn by actors on the float. “Andy’s Toy Chest” was very nicely crafted by the students. All of the classes did excellent jobs on their floats this year.
Below is a video of the floats shot shortly before the parade.
