Coronado Yacht Club Memories

Last night some friends invited us over to the Coronado Yacht Club for some food, drink and fun. We all let our kids play (run wild) while we enjoyed adult conversation, games of corn-hole and of course the beautiful views from the CYC lawn. We asked our Facebook Fan Club for some CYC memories and here is a sampling of there replies: Katherine S. Easter Egg Hunts and then most recently sneaking into the CYC after the All Class. heehee… Jamie T. COME CHEER ON CORONADO POP WARNER TOMORROW AT THE HS ALL DAY…..I’LL BE AT JPW GAME AT 2..COME ROOT EM ON! Teri L. Learned to sail from there with Lasers, and went to the Adams Cup quarterfinals in 1976! Anne S. Ahhhh Kass – but I found the golden egg…twice. 🙂 Iain A. I had my graduation dinner at the yacht club with some very good friends way back in 1976! Meg S. I worked there from about 1976-1979…my first job. I was the receptionist and did just about everything in the office including the switchboard (yes, an OLD switchboard), greeted visitors mooring boats, filing, typing, sorting mail, etc. Jack and Terry Mann were the office managers…a truly classic couple. Terry was a petite woman that sat in … Read Morea little desk in the back corner. Jack was a big, boisterous man that was fully of personality. They lived in an apartment attached to the building. The most memorable was putting out the member newsletter–the old-fashioned way! Addresses were made by a machine that stamped impressions on metal plates, then you fed those plates into another machine and slammed down with all your mite to make the impression on the paper. Typing the pages of the newsletter was done on mimeograph stencils (you corrected mistakes by filling in the characters with jello-like fluid) and then set on the big machine. I can’t remember if it had to be turned by hand or was electric, probably the latter because I think I would remember if I had to hand-crank that thing hundreds of times a month. But it was ancient equipment even in those times! Wonder where it is now… I remember getting tokens for the bar and ordering Shirley Temples, burgers and fries! I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t been back to see what the yacht club looks like in at least 25 years. Maybe I should never go back, as it would ruin the classic memories that I have… Valerie S. Our family had access to a houseboat there. As kids we spent a lot of time on the docks, in the club and the playground. I can recall the smells, bobbing decks, sandpipers on the golfcourse shores, in this very moment. Feel free to share your memories here or on the Coronado Fans page.
