Solar Community Program CORONADO INCENTIVES EXPRING

Resident Dan Sullivan Provides Discounts to Make Solar History In case you haven’t heard, Coronado is going solar. City resident Daniel Sullivan is the champion behind the vision for our community to be the first in America to be 100% solar powered. Dan, founder and owner of Sullivan Solar Power, says that aside from it being his neighborhood, his focus was directed on Coronado because of the patriotism that the island holds. “Solar electricity for Coronado makes perfect sense, it supports the local economy, strengthens national security, reduces CO2 emissions and preserves natural resources for future generations to come,” says Sullivan. Sullivan Solar Power is a San Diego-based turnkey solar solution provider that uses only SHARP and SANYO modules, the few companies whose solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are made in the United States. “We are committed to delivering the highest quality service by offering only the most proven and reliable products in the industry,” Sullivan said. Many people are putting solar panels on their homes to reduce CO2 consumption, but forget to look at where these products are coming from and are purchasing them to be imported from China. The Department of Defense is the single largest energy consumer in the United States. Last year it bought nearly 4 billion gallons of jet fuel, 220 million gallons of diesel and 73 million gallons of gasoline, according to Brian Lally, deputy undersecretary of defense for installations and environment. Coronado has a long history of supporting our nation’s service women and men, and Sullivan Solar Power is committed to working with military to adopt new green technologies. The local firm recently developed four portable solar PV panels with batteries to be tested on the decks of naval vessels. Investing in solar technology reduces our dependency on foreign fuels while also increasing national security. Former Director of the CIA, James Woolsey, said, “We have to reduce the amount of carbon that we’re putting into the atmosphere. We have to make sure that energy is as affordable as possible and we have to make sure that it is as secure as possible.” Since Sept. 11, Woolsey has become one of the most influential advocates for advancing national security and public health by reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. “We don’t have control over the security or the stability of the [fossil fuel] infrastructure the way we do over our electricity grid,” said the former spy chief. With Coronado being relatively small, Sullivan feels that the ambitious goal for a 100% solar city is obtainable. This would take about one-thirteenth of a square mile of solar roof space, but he can’t do it without the community’s support. In order to make the vision a reality, Dan Sullivan is offering his Coronado neighbors community discounts, on top of the state rebate and federal tax credit which currently eliminates approximately 50% of the system cost. Phase I, the largest incentive of the community discount program expires on September 1st. If 70kWAC is sold, everyone receives 7.5% off their system, 100kWAC gets discounted 12.5% and for 150kWAC sold, everyone receives a 17.5% discount on their installation. “The more people who sign up to be a part of the solar community, the greater incentive I am going to provide, so tell your neighbor,” Dan says with a smile. To assist with getting the word out for the community vision, Sullivan Solar Power is hosting a series of solar community seminars over the next few months. The next seminars will take place on August 15th and September 12th at 1PM in the Coronado Community Center. If interested in setting up a free site evaluation, please call 1-800-SULLIVAN.
