Mayor Tanaka and all concerned citizens – a little help in solvng a little dilemma. We have been looking for a way to recognize outstanding achievements in beauitifying our city that is connected to our High School Students. A couple of stellar citizens and their grand daughter, Jessica Lewis, stand out. The goal: our little management company has come into a little sum of money that we wanted to award in a form of scholarship to a Senior High School Student that was graduating this year (have graduated this year), but we wanted to connect this scholarship to efforts and achievements that beauitify Coronado via an organization that the Citizen and High School Student have truly dedicated themselves relentlessly. Tony and immediately thought of Mr. and Mrs. Loel Fain and their Grand daughter Jessica. Mrs. Fain is a member of the BBGC and her husband Mr. Fain have been involved in extensive beautification projects with the BBCClub and also with volunteering and entering in the Coronado Flower Show for many years, most recently, in the past 2 years or so with an elementary school garden, on top of continuously encouraging their granddaughter Senior Graduate, Jessica Lewis to enter and also work long and arduous hours with them at the Show. Jessica has also entered the Flower show and have won first place trophy’s and have helped her Grandfather, Mr. Fain run the Men’s section. We have watched Mr. and Mrs. Fain for 8 long years now and their admirable way of getting Jessica involved in community service. We find this to be an act of outstanding achievements that should be awarded with a Scholarship encouraging of this type of service to beautify our City. What has happened: we awarded the Scholarship to BBCG to present to Jessica Lewis so it would encourage other High School Students to be involved in horticulture, community service, and other similar means of beautification but we were disappointed to get the uncashed check and a letter back indicating that the Club has voted on not awarding scholarships like these. Is there a way to get a scholarship like this out in the system? Can we give it to the School to award? We really wanted a nonprofit org to administer it that was tied to beautification, but if the school has a way of doing it every year, since we plan to give away this scholoarship every year to celebrate the beautification efforts from our children! Any ideas, Mayor? OR anyone out there? It maybe too late for this year’s scholarship to be channeled more officially, since we will present it to Jessica directly due to timing. She can probably use this scholarship to help pay for books, etc. very soon. Any help or suggestions would be helpful in channeling our yearly scholarship through an official system the student receiving it can be recognized officially.
