Chamber Welcomes Newest Member Coronado Family Optometry

The Coronado Chamber of Commerce would like to welcome their newest member, Coronado Family Optometry, to the community! The Chamber celebrated with a Ribbon Cutting at their new office located at 171 C Avenue, Suite B, which is open six days a week. Dr. Irene Gendelman Patel and Dr. Smit Patel are thrilled to be a part of the Coronado community.

Both Dr. Gendelman and Dr. Patel graduated with a Doctorate of Optometry from the distinguished Southern California College of Optometry. Both doctors earned bachelors degrees from the University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Gendelman’s past clinical experience includes practicing at the Eyecare Associates of Utah, Sharp Reese Stealy Healthcare System, and Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital in Phoenix. She also played a role as an Investigator on vision related research funded by the National Institute of Health in Boston. She holds awards and scholarships for her work in ocular disease and low vision, an area of optometry that serves the visually impaired.

Dr. Patel’s past clinical experience includes residency training in Primary Eye Care and Low Vision through the San Diego Veterans Affairs Healthcare System as well as clinical experience at the Center for the Partially Sighted in Santa Monica, Veterans Affairs Clinic in Bakersfield, and Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital in Arizona.

Dr. Gendelman and Dr. Patel are firm believers in community involvement and volunteering. Dr. Gendelman has participated in mission trips to El Salvador and along with Dr. Patel they have provided eye care to underserved populations deep into the Baja peninsula. Here in San Diego they have volunteered providing vision screenings at the Monarch School. They currently work with the Lions Club by offering eye examinations and glasses to children and adults who otherwise can not afford it.

Special thanks to Richard Bailey 51st Mayor of Coronado and City of Coronado City Council Members Mike Donovan, Carrie Downey and Bill Sandke for attending!
