San Diego has been home to two previous Major League Baseball All-Star games, in 1978 and 1992. The third one will take place tomorrow night when the 87th MLB All-Star Game begins at Petco Park.
Leading up to San Diego’s third hosting of the All-Star Game, this past weekend at Petco Park, the San Diego Convention Center, and in downtown San Diego, was filled with baseball related activities for enthusiasts of all ages. Fan events included exhibition games, player appearances, clinics, giveaways, a 5k, concerts, and so much more.
The activities continue today and tomorrow downtown, in and around Petco Park, and at the Convention Center. There is still time for autographs, photos, and instructional clinics. Take the Ferry from Coronado across the bay right to the Convention Center.
Tonight is the Home Run Derby. Watch the batters compete to hit it out of the park, televised at 5pm on ESPN. A new format for the Derby was introduced last year with seeded brackets and timed rounds. You can also download a new app and play your own fantasy home run derby game.
Tomorrow’s All-Star Game begins at 5pm; coverage starts at 4:30pm and will be shown on FOX.
