Any way you slice it – from seared Ahi and Albacore to Calico Poke and Spicy Tuna Rolls – tuna takes top billing during annual Tuna Takeover Tastings at Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill in August.
Bluewater Boathouse’s popular Tuesday Night Tasting Series continues August 9 when seafood lovers can pair this expertly prepared, sustainably caught tuna with authentic Japanese beer and sake in addition to the customary wine.
The monthly series combines seasonal seafood and shellfish with wine, beer or sake and roving commentary by the restaurants’ resident seafood experts. In addition to the once-a-month celebratory events, customers can order the special feast off the menu throughout the month – and the result has become popular monthly gatherings in each Bluewater neighborhood.
Tuna Takeover Tastings feature tuna prepared five ways: Seared Ahi; Seared and Smoked Albacore; Calico Poke, including both Ahi and Albacore; and Spicy Tuna Roll sushi. The $24.95 price includes a choice of tastings of Hakutsuru Draft Sake and Sapporo Draft Beer, both imported from Japan, or Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.
Poke, pronounced “po-kay,” is a traditional Hawaiian dish that combines bite-size pieces of raw tuna with a special blend of soy sauce, sesame oil and seasoning consisting of sesame seeds, green onions, and chiles.
Consistent with Bluewater Boathouse’s strict commitment to seafood sustainability, all varieties of tuna served during the tasting comply with sustainability standards established by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach or other third-party organizations dedicated to fish-origin certification.
