Time Warner Cable Names Outstanding Teachers Coronado, CA – April 24, 2009 – Amy Steward and Annette Tickner, fifth grade teachers at Coronado Village Elementary School, have received the 2009 Time Warner Cable National Teacher Award, it was announced today by Bob Barlow, Time Warner Cable’s regional vice president of operations. In addition to winning a $2000 cash grant and a $3000 technology grant for their school, Steward and Tickner will be honored during a gala awards event on June 3 in Washington, D.C., along with other teachers who developed winning classroom projects selected for this year’s Awards. “It’s very gratifying to see our local teachers get this national recognition,” said Barlow. It underscores the hard work, dedication and real creative energy that is going into our classrooms, and eventually, our entire community benefits from that effort,” he said. Steward and Tickner’s award-winning entry, We Can Save Our Oceans used programming from the Discovery Channel in its creation, but added a particular innovative twist to catch the judges eye. The cable programming is part of Cable in the Classroom, a public service of Time Warner Cable and the cable television industry supplying over 525 hours of commercial-free, educational programming to schools each month.
