Coronado’s center of free arts and culture for the past 50 years, the Winn Room of the Coronado Public Library, is aging and its limited capacity is restricting the caliber of events available to our community. The city is looking for public feedback to gauge support for remodeling and expanding the space into a state-of-the-art facility. If approved, construction would likely take a year, with up to an additional year for all planning requirements to be finalized. Brad Willis met yesterday with Library Director Shaun Briley for this story.
Architectural storyboards for the two expansion options are now up and available to view in the Coronado Library, and the public can also visit commentcoronado.org/winn-room-expansion for additional information and to make comments.

The Coronado Public Library’s Winn Room has long been the center of free cultural enrichment in Coronado. It is the “one venue” in Coronado that offers a wide range of free cultural programs. There is no charge for the local nonprofits providing programming and no charge to those attending. But the Winn Room is aging. The poor acoustics and sight lines to the stage and limited capacity has hindered the presentation of certain events. Conceptual plans and costs for a new facility have been developed for public review and are now available at the Library. Concepts have been developed to meet the needs of a space that Coronado residents have come to depend on. Residents now have the opportunity to weigh in on “The Winn”. A town hall presentation and Q&A is planned for March 24 but in the meantime, check out a new page on the Comment Coronado public engagement site to learn more about “The Winn,” take a survey and view the concept plans.
