(Fred Radtke, Mayor Casey Tanaka, and WWII veterans)
The Walgreens of Coronado celebrated its grand opening Saturday December 8th, the day after the anniversary of Pearl Harbor. The event sought not only to celebrate Walgreens, but also World War II veterans. Walgreens store manager, Fred Radtke, announced that they will be honoring local WWII veterans by devoting a wall in the store to display pictures of the vets during their time of service. The photos will come from old military and naval id’s. Not only is Walgreens honoring the men who served, but also the women who contributed as well by posting pictures of married couples who served. Veterans will can bring their photos into Walgreens or submit them online.

In the recent Veteran’s Day Parade, local Girl Scouts carried posters of photos of WWII veterans. This was an idea initiated by Fred Radtke and has spread nationwide to similar events. Once again, Girl Scouts were on hand Saturday to honor the veterans. A special appearance by the “kissing couple” statue donated by the “Spirit of 45” provided photo ops for the many locals attending the grand opening. At 2 pm, Mayor Casey Tanaka had the honor of cutting the ribbon. He announced that, “In Coronado we have a lot of things to be thankful for. Today we thank Walgreens, the “Spirit of 45″, Girl Scouts, and World War II Veterans.”
