San Diego Bay to Re-Open for Water Sport Activities

Kayaking, paddle boarding, and swimming will be allowed on San Diego Bay beginning Monday, solo or with members of your own household.

In addition to sand and water activities resuming at Coronado’s beaches on Monday morning, April 27, the Port of San Diego has announced that kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming will be allowed on San Diego Bay beginning at sunrise on Monday as well.

This follows and complies with the County of San Diego’s modified public health order. Gatherings of any size are still not allowed, which means these activities may only be done solo or with members of your own household, and social/physical distancing from those outside of your household must continue to be followed.

The Port is taking a phased approach to reopening public spaces in compliance with County Health guidance and in coordination with other coastal jurisdictions. San Diego Bay remains closed to recreational boating, and Port parks, parking lots, piers, and launch ramps remain closed at this time. Click here for the latest list of public parks and facilities closures. Public access walkways, sidewalks, and promenades along the bayfront continue to be open to allow exercise – walking, running, and cycling.

The Port encourages the public to continue to follow State of California and County of San Diego public health guidance:

  • wash your hands often and for 20 seconds each time,
  • avoid touching your face,
  • regularly clean frequently touched surfaces.

Beginning May 1, wearing face coverings while out in public and within six feet of others will be required throughout San Diego County.
