Modifications to the San Diego County Public Health Order were announced on April 24 related to activities in the ocean and bays beginning Monday, April 27, as well as mandatory face coverings to be worn in public beginning on Friday, May 1.
Oceans and Bays
Starting Monday, April 27, the following activities will be allowed in the water of the ocean and bays: swimming, surfing, paddle boarding and kayaking. Recreational boating is still banned.
However, each city is responsible for deciding whether to open its beaches, and visitors should check before visiting. Beach parking lots will remain closed. In Coronado, the city announced on Friday evening that “beginning at sunrise on Monday, April 27, Coronado will open its beach to walking and running. Beachgoers may enter the water for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and other recreational water sports. However, people may not loiter, lay on the sand or gather in groups of any size at the beach. The beach will close at sunset.”
Additional changes to the county health order include the relaxation of some restrictions for parks and golf courses if social distancing can be enforced. The operators of parks and golf courses will need to create and post a plan for how they will do that. These changes are effective May 1.
If they can maintain social distancing:
- Parks can reopen parking lots, with limitations.
- Park visitors can sit, lie down, picnic if they practice social distancing.
- Members of a family or household can play active sports, such as basketball.
Facial covering rules
Effective May 1, everyone must wear face coverings anywhere in public where they come within 6 feet of another person that is not part of their household.
