TAF, Third & Fourth Streets Activism: The First Six Months

TAF, the Third and Fourth Streets Planning Community Group, is getting things moving. We are excited to catch everyone up on our accomplishments over the initial 6 months of TAF.

First, for those who did not attend, here is how the votes went at May 20th Council Meeting regarding Third and Fourth Streets.

1. Council Approved: Funding approved for City Manager to hire company for beautification rendering of toll plaza and community outreach, aka, media, community workshops. TAF will notify company with offer to assist in outreach objectives. There was an earlier workshop held in 2013. Only 5 residents attended.

2. Council Approved: Engaging Caltrans on options for a safe pedestrian/bike crossing at Third and Fourth and B Avenue.

3. City Staff Proposed: 2014/2015 fiscal year funding towards drainage solution for Fourth and I.

4. City Staff Proposed: Pedestrian Master Plan proposed.

TAF requested collaboration between consulting/design firms/Caltrans. (Although that was not granted, we feel confident opportunities will be arranged for neighborhood input. It is up to the community to attend any and all workshops and meetings. TAF wants the 7.5 million remaining money that SANDAG appointed to the Third and Fourth corridor to be used there, not on “Feeder” streets, mainly because all streets could argue that they are “Feeders.”)

The June 3rd City Council Meeting is extremely important. Council will consider honorary designation of Avenue of Heroes to the Third and Fourth Streets Loop, from bridge touch down to NASNI. This designation will be in name only and will not feature any changes to the roadway. However, it will mark the roadway as important and will engender pride in and respect of our neighborhood. If you cannot make it, or do not like speaking in public, please write or call council members asking they approve the honorary designation of Avenue of Heroes.
Date: Tuesday, June 3, at City Hall
Time: 4:00 pm
