The Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) announced Tuesday that CMS Principal Jay Marquand has been named the Middle School Principal Administrator of the Year for San Diego and Imperial County (Region 18) for 2015. The award is given annually by the organization, which is the largest umbrella organization for school leaders in the nation, serving more than 14,500 school leaders. The award will be presented to Dr. Marquand before hundreds of his peers on the evening of April 24th at the “Honoring Our Own” Awards Dinner at the Sheraton Harbor Island Hotel & Resort.
“I am honored to accept this reward on behalf of those who have inspired me throughout my career,” said Dr. Marquand when told of his award. “Without the fabulous faculty and staff at CMS and the encouragement from my fellow Coronado administrators, I don’t think this award would have happened.”
Dr. Marquand was born and raised in San Diego. After being inspired by his own teachers, he knew education was his calling and would be an excellent way to contribute by working with youth for a stronger tomorrow. Upon completion of undergraduate schooling at the University of California in Santa Barbara, he continued to pursue experience and training through graduate and certificated courses of study, including a doctorate of leadership studies at the University of San Diego.
Besides sitting on local boards that support his school, such as the schools foundation, the city police task force to develop student relations, and many others, he also serves as the ACSA Region 18 Middle Schools Council representative. Furthermore, he continues to find ways to bring other school leadership teams and distinguished guests to his school.
