Tania Luviano Puts the “Fun” in Fundraising for Coronado Schools Foundation

2019 CSF Telethon Host Tania Luviano

What do the Price is Right, Family Feud, and Jeopardy have in common? Aside from being popular televised game-shows, they all feature a crowd-pleasing and charismatic host, of course! This year’s Coronado Schools Foundation (CSF) Telethon has found one too… in none other than Emmy-award winning journalist, TV personality, and local mom, Tania Luviano.

Tania is a five-time Emmy award-winning journalist, having worked as an investigative reporter for NBC San Diego and Fox News Latino as well as featuring as an anchor and host for KNSD TV in San Diego, Telemundo 52 Los Angeles, and Disney. In 2012 Luviano launched her own production company and will showcase her first feature-length film, Carbon, on March 21.

Tania Luviano’s first feature-length film as Associate Producer opens March 21st.

Despite her busy schedule and upcoming film premiere, when Tania was asked to host the event, she didn’t hesitate. “I really love our schools in Coronado,” says Tania, “I considered it such an honor to be asked to host such an important fundraiser for the schools here.”

According to Tania, who has a 4th Grader at Village Elementary, and a 6th Grader at Coronado Middle School, both of her sons have benefitted from the range of programs offered in the Coronado School district, which are made possible thanks to CSF which provides funds to the schools.

“My son Carlos is a very talented actor and presenter,” says Luviano. “Even though he already has a successful career emerging in the entertainment industry, the theatre program offered through the schools gives him the opportunity to be creative alongside his friends and within his local community.” Carlos will be participating in the CSF All Schools Musical, “Annie Junior,” in June.

“My older son, David,” continues Tania proudly “prefers to be behind-the-scenes. Thanks to his multimedia class, he has been able to practice his camera skills and editing work. I can imagine him becoming a director one day. There really is something for everyone at the schools here.”

The live community event takes place Thursday, March 14th, kicking off with the Family Fun Fair in the Coronado High School quad beginning at 4:30pm. The Family Fun Fair will offer face painting, an inflatable obstacle course, carnival games, food and more. Tania makes her debut as host at 5pm when the live game shows start and leads the fundraising efforts throughout until the event concludes at 9pm. In addition to the interactive game shows, student acts will be peppered throughout the evening. Performances will showcase the talents of the Village Elementary, Silver Strand, and CoSA Bands, the 2019 winner of Coronado’s Talent, and a special appearance from some talented Coronado teachers.

The 2019 CSF Telethon is on Thursday, March 14th.

Tania is enthusiastic about the format of the fundraiser and promises the event will be interactive and entertaining. “The event is going to be so fun,” says Tania. “It will be like watching your friends and neighbors appearing on live TV. Anything can happen!”

But despite the festivities, the real purpose is to raise money for our schools, says Luviano. “Show me the Money!” she laughs.
