Border Environmental Meetings in Washington, D.C.: This past week, the Mayor, the City Manager, along with Coronado’s Washington, D.C. lobbyists, made office visits seeking funding and a solution to the Tijuana River Valley border sewage issues. Meetings were held with the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs; the Environmental Protection Agency; the State Department, and legislators. Much of the discussion focused on the U.S.-Mexico Border Water Infrastructure Program that provides funding for the 62 miles north and south of the U.S.-Mexico border. New Council Policy for Retail Establishments: The City Council this week adopted an administrative policy to eliminate or reduce off-street parking requirements for retail and personal service establishments with adjunct counter-oriented eating and drinking services. The new policy recognizes the expanding gray area between full-service, counter-oriented, and hybrid eating and drinking establishments and the challenges of enforcing a one-size-fits-all parking requirement. New Sign Installation: A new community sign was installed last week at Spreckels Park. The sign features local churches as well as local civic organizations and other local groups. The sign maintains the characteristics of the former sign with the wood frame but accommodates more names and blends well with its park surroundings.
