On May 14 the City of Coronado’s Seniors Out and About met its grant ride goal by providing 4321 rides! Coronado Seniors Out & About is a volunteer driver program that provides pre-scheduled rides, for a nominal fee, to Coronado residents ages 60+. In just over two years of service to the community, volunteer drivers have provided more than 4,235 one-way rides – a number not expected to be reached until the end of June!
If you are a Coronado resident 60+ and are in need of transportation, this program may be an option for you. Trained volunteer drivers provide rides to medical offices, grocery stores, social events, fitness activities, barber/beauty shops and more. Rides are provided up to 25 miles door to door for a nominal fee ($1 to $4 depending on distance traveled). Program hours are Monday through Saturday 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
Each week between 40 and 70 rides are requested, many of those for important medical appointments. With this high demand for rides, CSOA needs more volunteer drivers! If you have a California Driver’s license and can provide four rides a month we need your help.
