Bloom Bash Celebrates Spring and Community Under the Stars

The Coronado Bloom Bash took place on Saturday evening in the middle of the largest tented flower show in the United States. The highly anticipated annual flower show is Coronado’s longest running tradition. The theme of the 2019 Flower Show, which was held April 13-14, 2019, was Flower Power: Looking Back to 1969. The Bloom Bash was a 21+ event scheduled between two full days of flower fun and is directly affiliated with the flower show with all proceeds going to the Coronado Floral Association. Sara Stillman co-chaired the Bloom Bash along with Colby Erickson Freer. Sara shared, “I am so excited to have an opportunity to work with the Flower Show and share in the community with such a beloved longstanding tradition.” Sara and Colby have a lot to be proud of – the event sold out which means great things for the Coronado Floral Association.

As a first timer of the Bloom Bash I expected there to be flowers and community; there was more of each than I could have ever imagined! While people were dressing up in flower crowns and listening to music at Coachella, it seems appropriate to describe the Bloom Bash as Coronado’s down home version of that, but better because it was right in the center of town and everyone’s a friend (also it wasn’t 90 degrees).

Swag Bags and Activities

The amount of detail and planning that went into this event was obvious but also the creativity using local vendors to expand on the theme was impressive. There was hair braiding by Salon de Ville, temporary tattoos by Coronado Glow, flower crowns by The Coronado Flower Lady, and of course a VW photo booth which had a line all night!

Tote bags were available and a plethora of swag bag items for sampling were displayed in adorable pop up tipi tents. Some of the many items to be found included treats in the PAWS tent (my dog thought these tasted pawsome!), luxurious lavender scrub from Be Polished, and water from Sweat Equity which was very refreshing after the beer and wine tasters throughout the event. There was certainly something for everyone.

Local band It’s Never 2L8 kept the party rocking and light up hula hoops showcased unique talent. The performances and lights created an ambiance for a magical night.

Nibbles and Sips

Also, the FOOD!! So many top options from a variety of pur local food and beverage purveyors. There were donuts from Amalo Brew Coffee (known for being the coffee cart outside the library), Saiku Sushi provided hand rolls while High Tide rolled out a sneak peak of their new menu item – Mac n Cheese! Tasty dessert options came from Moo Time Creamery as well as Gelato Paradiso and hands down phenomenal cookies from Boney’s. There was wine from Nado Republic and wine raffle gifts from Scout and Cellar. Both Attitude Brewing and CBC brewed up some great beer. And that’s just a sample of the many options available for guests.

Community and Beyond

While the perks of being there with food, drink and goodies galore was amazing, it was the community that really puts the event over the edge. My fiance Greg joined me at the event and shared, “It’s really great seeing so many people I haven’t seen in years! Everyone is having such a good time.” He was right, everywhere we looked people were laughing with each other, sharing dinner at high tops or picnicking at pallet tables. Although there are many events in Coronado where the community comes together, the close proximity of being in the tented area made it so you had a chance to see everyone and mingle all night. Bravo for the Coronado Bloom Bash for putting on a bash the town will remember!
