The Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa announces Coronado resident, Wayne Strickland as the first recipient of its Live Well Coronado Community Spotlight. The program recognizes locals who are doing well and living well in the community
Wayne Strickland is an active member of the Coronado Rotary Club and leader of the Coronado Bridge Suicide Prevention Coalition. The former fire captain was nominated by his fellow Rotary Club members for his outstanding community involvement and contributions, which includes involvement in the Coronado VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars).
The Coronado Island Marriott thanks Wayne for his outstanding community involvement, and are pleased to host him for a deserved day of relaxation at the Spa at Coronado Island.
I was very honored to be chosen for the first “Live Well Coronado Community Spotlight” nomination. I never previously had a real massage, facial or pedicure. It was very relaxing to have these treatments and the Women at the Marriott Spa did an excellent job. The lunch by the pool was also delicious and I was very lucky and feel very thankful to the Marriott Spa.
When I was a Coronado Firefighter I saw the bridge being built and went to many tragic accidents before before needed safety improvements were installed. The street lights were first and finally we got the movable center divider to prevent head on collisions installed. It took Community activists to get CalTrans to install the lights and center divider on the Bridge and center divider on the Strand. We must be activists to get CalTrans to build a suicide prevention barrier on the Bridge. Lives will be saved with a Coronado Bridge suicide prevention barrier and Bridge closures will be a thing of the past. www.coronadobridge.net/
