Keating Kids Visit Coronado Retirement Village

The Keating Kids perform Christmas carols for military veterans and residents of the Coronado Retirement Village.

As Coronado gets into the Christmas spirit, the Old Goats and Kids Who Care found another way to give back to the community this season. Alumni from the United States Naval Academy have partnered with the Charles Keating IV Foundation and thought of another event highlighting the Kids Who Care, otherwise known as the “Keating Kids.” This Christmas season, the “Keating Kids” added this third event, in addition to their other two annual events (wheelchair basketball in the spring and a wounded warrior reception in the fall).

The event, held Tuesday, December 19, was sponsored also by the Loews Coronado Good Neighbors, who provided cookies and Christmas cards, and it featured the “Keating Kids” performing Christmas carols for the residents of the Coronado Retirement Village. Ben Hallowell, Old Goat and driving force behind many of the events, said, “I wish all 60 Old Goats from across the country who contribute to our gifts and programs could experience the feeling of seeing our Kids Who Care, or ‘Keating Kids,’ represent us at events like this – it’s a feeling of patriotism, Christmas, and our future all rolled into one – combine that with seeing the pride on the faces of Coronado’s own hero Charlie Keating IV’s family who were in attendance and you experience one of life’s true feel-good moments.”

Below is a video of one of the “Keating Kids”‘ performances from the evening:

After finishing their performance, the children handed out Christmas cards and cookies. This concluded the evening for the young humanitarians-in-training, showing Coronado what it means to care.

Donations to the Old Goats are always welcome. Visit their Facebook page for more information.
