On Wednesday, December 13, the boys’ varsity soccer team went to El Cajon to play Granite Hills High School. In an easy win for Coronado, the Islanders handled their opponents with ease, preventing them from scoring. The final score was 5-0, and after this success, Coach Aaron Brooks said, “A new team is always a process and we took a great step in the right direction tonight.” Garrett Herrmann was the top scorer, with two goals. Nico Rihan, Nathan Testa, and Juan Martinez each scored one goal against Granite Hills.
On Friday, December 15, Montgomery High School came to Niedermeyer Field for what ended up being a tight game. The only goal scored was on Coronado’s behalf by Garrett Herrmann, with an assist by Nico Rihan. With an excellent defense from Ian Hurlburt, Andres Martinez, and Jack Wood, Coronado was able to preserve the shutout against their opponents. “The new midfield rotation, from Ben Wilkinson, Nic Woods and Jake Ehret, played like varsity veterans with a top class finish by Garrett Herrmann,” commented Coach Brooks.
The team record is now three wins to one loss and a tie.
