High School Students Invited to Enter Instrumental Music Competition

Coronado high school students in grades 9 through 12 are invited to participate in the 2018 Coronado Rotary Music Scholarship Competition. This is an opportunity for young musicians to win cash prizes, perform for appreciative audiences, and enhance their future careers.

Prize money will be rewarded to all at each level of competition: club, regional, and Rotary District Finals.

The competition aims to recognize the high school student who best demonstrates musical talent and love for instrumental music. Students are judged on musical ability, technique and accuracy, interpretation of the selection played, and stage presence.

Contest performances occur during the months of January through March. There is a preliminary competition at the Coronado High School Black Box to select four finalists for Coronado Rotary Club competition on January 24.

The Coronado Rotary Club event includes prizes of $200 (1st); $125 (2nd); $75 (entrant). The winner will participate in semi-final District competitions and a chance to go to the Rotary District 5340 Finals, where the first Place prize is $2500 and each finalist receives $500.

In last January’s competition, Kristofer Leslie, a senior at Coronado High/Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA), won First Place at the Coronado Rotary Club’s Musical Scholarship Competition. He went on to win at a regional contest and became a finalist at the Rotary District Finals. Kristopher won $700 in scholarships during these competitions.

The application deadline for the Coronado Rotary 2018 Music Scholarship Competition is January 12, 2017. Application forms are available by contacting Rotarian Robert Taylor at [email protected] or 203-226-6202.
