Lilach Harris is a military spouse and local therapist. She founded a non-profit in March of 2016 called The Unbattle Project. She created this organization to provide free, confidential counseling to veterans and current military members.
“Our mission is to reduce veterans’ suicide rates and restore hope for life (currently 20 veterans per day commit suicide),” Harris said in an email, “We, at UP believe that counseling can make a difference and that military life matters.”
According to The Unbattle Project website, untreated mental health issues are a large factor in rising suicide and homelessness rates among US veterans. The organization promotes the idea that people are bent, not broken, and that chronic problems are avoidable with proper intervention.
